Fredericton Youth Council

I was pleased to hold the first-ever meeting of the Fredericton Youth Council in November. Comprised of 18 young people who live across the Fredericton region, the council will meet several times a year to discuss public policy issues important to youth and how the federal government can better understand the perspective of young Canadians when making decisions. Keep up to date on the activities of the Fredericton Youth Council by following the group on Facebook. I’m looking forward to working with this passionate group as they tackle important projects to give youth a greater voice in government.

Canada Summer Jobs applications are back!

Are you a local business owner, public sector employer or work for a not-for-profit in our region? Know someone who is? Be sure to help us spread the word about the 2017 Canada Summer Jobs application process. The Canada Summer Jobs Program is a key component of the federal government’s Youth Employment Strategy. This program helps employers create summer job opportunities for students in their communities. The application to apply for funding through Canada Summer Jobs is now open until the Jan. 20 deadline. See my websitefor more information or to fill out an application, and help us spread the word by sharing our posts on Facebook and Twitter.

Investing in our communities

In late October, I had the pleasure of announcing funding to help make the Douglas Harbour Community Centre an even more valuable and accessible community hub for constituents. The funding, more than $6,000 from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, will be used to construct an outdoor patio for hosting community events. Learn about more important announcements to improve qualify of life in our region on my website.
